About

Katie Linsky Shaw has worked as a photographer and writer since college. Following graduation, she worked full-time as a reporter and photographer for newspapers, and freelanced for a large, daily newspaper in Memphis, TN. After a move to Arkansas, Katie opened a portrait photography business but continued to do freelance work for newspapers and photograph personal projects. She moved to Asheville, NC eight years ago where she lives now with her husband and two sons and continues to work as a freelance photographer and writer.

She likes to seek out unusual photographic opportunities in Asheville, once named the quirkiest town in America. A few of her favorites include capturing the local Furry convention and the Miss Gay Latina pageant. She documented her father throughout the last nine years of his life following a stroke, capturing his physical and mental decline. Other current work includes a photo project documenting the mental health epidemic with youth and young adults, which was inspired by her son's struggles, and a fine art photography series illustrating her own mental health struggles in a whimsical way.

Katie's main portfolio can be found here.
